We are seeking an experienced Energy Marshal to join a leading European contractor delivering a large-scale, mission-critical data centre project in Espoo, Finland. This is a highly safety-critical, site-based role responsible for managing all aspects of energy isolation, energisation, and control across complex MEP systems.
The Energy Marshal will act as the central authority for electrical energy control on site, coordinating closely with construction, commissioning, EHS, QA/QC, and client teams to ensure all energised works are planned, controlled, and executed safely.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and manage the site-wide energy control and isolation strategy.
Take ownership of all electrical energisation and de-energisation activities across LV, MV, and HV systems.
Prepare, review, and validate switching plans, method statements, and risk assessments for all energised works.
Lead and chair daily and weekly energy control meetings with MEP, commissioning, OFCI, and GC teams.
Maintain live energy status boards and accurate logs of all energised systems on site.
Coordinate energisation milestones in line with programme and commissioning requirements.
Manage and control permits-to-work related to electrical energisation in coordination with EHS and QA/QC teams.
Enforce Lock-Out / Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and ensure full subcontractor compliance.
Interface closely with commissioning teams during load bank testing, UPS energisation, generator testing, switchgear energisation, and critical cooling systems start-up.
Provide technical input into project risk registers and ensure mitigations are implemented for high-risk activities.
Deliver energy awareness training and briefings to site teams and subcontractors.
Monitor and challenge unsafe practices, stopping works where required to maintain safe systems of work.
Skills & Qualifications
Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
Minimum 7–10 years’ experience working on large-scale electrical or high-voltage projects.
Strong technical knowledge of LV, MV, and HV electrical distribution systems.
Proven experience with switching operations, isolation procedures, and permit-to-work systems.
In-depth understanding of UPS systems, generators, switchgear, and electrical protection systems.
Familiarity with BMS, EMS, and SCADA systems, including interpretation of interlocks and control logic.
Competence in fault finding, protection coordination, and electrical testing and commissioning.
Experience with arc flash studies, short circuit calculations, and electrical safety analysis.
Strong understanding of data centre redundancy concepts (N, N+1, 2N) and their impact on switching sequences.
